New Amsterdam: NBC Medical Drama Closing Doors with 13-Ep Season 5
With an upcoming 13-episode fifth season, the doors to NBC's Ryan Eggold-starring medical drama New Amsterdam are set to close. Reported earlier today exclusively by Deadline Hollywood, the David Schulner-created series focused on Eggold's Dr. Max Goodwin, who became the medical director of one of the country's oldest public hospitals with the mission to not just transform the way New Amsterdam offered health care but also the way medical professionals connect with their patients. The shorter-than-usual final season will bring the show's total to 92 episodes.
"The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring," said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, in a statement to DH. "We're so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration." Erin Underhill, President, Universal Television, added, "When I first read the pilot script for New Amsterdam, I knew we had a winner. We cheered Max's disruption of the status quo and applauded when he asked his patients the simple yet profound question, 'How can I help?' Over the last four seasons, David, Peter and our incredible cast have tackled important and thought-provoking stories that have touched on the human condition, but also made us laugh and imbued hope. We're so proud of this series and are indebted to everyone involved in bringing New Amsterdam to life. Bravo!"
Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir "Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital" and his 15 years as medical director at the hospital, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher. David Schulner and Peter Horton executive produce along with Michael Slovis, David Foster, Aaron Ginsburg, and Shaun Cassidy. New Amsterdam is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Pico Creek Productions, and Mount Moriah.
