Vagrant Queen Canceled by SYFY; EP Jem Garrard Posts Message to Fans
Elida's (Adriyan Rae) small screen journey at SYFY has come to an end after one season, with the cable network announcing on Friday that Vagrant Queen has been canceled. Based on Vault Comics' graphic novel series and developed for series by showrunner-executive producer Jem Garrard, the series struggled to attract eyeballs after its March premiere (averaging 417,000 total viewers and only 131,000 viewers in Adults 18-49 demo after LIVE+7 delayed were considered. The series was rescheduled from Fridays to Thursday at 11 pm after its first three episodes, which resulted in an 11% gain in week-to-week numbers: impressive, but not enough to keep it from holding the title as SYFY's lowest-rated series in terms of total viewers and key demos since 2019. Here's a look at the message Garrard posted to fans earlier today:
Friday wasn't all bad news for SYFY, though. The cable network announced that the fourth season of Wynonna Earp would see the light of day starting July 26, with an official trailer to mark the occasion. SYFY has reduced its roster of scripted series, with Wynonna Earp the only "veteran" series. Resident Alien, Chucky, Day of the Dead, and The Surrealtor are four more scripted series set to make their debut some time in 2020/2021.
VAGRANT QUEEN follows Elida (Adriyan Rae) from child queen to orphaned outcast, as she scavenges the treacherous corners of the galaxy, always one step ahead of the Republic government out to extinguish her bloodline. When her old friend Isaac (Tim Rozon) shows up claiming her mother Xevelyn is still alive, they head off with their new ally, Amae (Alex McGregor), to stage a rescue that will take her back into the perilous heart of her former kingdom and up against a deadly foe from her childhood, Commander Lazaro (Paul du Toit).
SYFY's Vagrant Queen was produced by Blue Ice Pictures and filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. Garrard executive produced alongside Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron, and F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel on behalf of Vault Comics. Adriyan Rae, Tim Rozon, Alex McGregor, and Paul du Toit starred.
