Going For A Spin In The Dark Knight Rises Tumbler And Interviewing FX Man Chris Corbould

While 'working' for Bleeding Cool, much of my time is spent doing donkey work but sometimes, I get to do something pretty wild. Case in point: the other week I got to live out not one but two fantasies.

I was not only getting a drive around Top Gear's Dunsford Test Track but I got to a ride in the Tumbler from Chris Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy.

I was being chauffeured by no less than stunt driver Ben Collins, the man who famously copped to being The Stig.

But why was I? To promote the Dark Knight Rises DVD and Blu-ray release, like it needs that anyway.

I also got to have a nice sit-down with the film's special effects supervisor, Chris Corbould. Here's the video, starting with The Tumbler, then getting onto the interview.

As obvious as it that these films feature a ton more CGI effects than many fans admit, Nolan's approach could definitely be called 'practical.' It's remarkable that they actually made a car as large as the Tumbler and that can reach speeds of up to 120mph.

While I have been sworn to secrecy about the interior of the vehicle, as a functional automobile, it is fairly impressive. It certainly has a kick to it and there was literally deafening roar inside – temporarily deafening, thankfully.

Chances are that you already know if you are going to buy The Dark Knight Rises. But if you missed it at the cinema and you do want to watch it, I suggest that you get a Blu-ray copy and bring it over to your richest friend's house to abuse them for their home entertainment system. It is a movie that was made to be seen on the biggest screen possible with and definitely with a very robust sound system.

The Dark Knight Rises and the whole Dark Knight trilogy are available on DVD and Blu-ray right now in the UK and tomorrow in the US.
