Today's Batgirl Needs An Ed Snowden (Spoilers) – And A New Transgender Hero?

Firstly, for those of you who need a little uplift after the Batgirl cover debacle, may I recommend today's Batman Eternal for Batgirl getting a little closure over a certain face….

But today's Batgirl #40 sees the Barbara Gordon Sentient Evil Crime-Prevention Algorithm hooked up with Hooq and a military level laser satellite to hack the future and destroy it before it happens. Find people who will grow up to do bad things, on purpose or not, and kill then. Basically a bit like hat Hydra was going to do with the SHIELD helicarriers in Captain America:Winter Soldier. But with social media.

The attempt, as in Captain America, is (spoilers) foiled. And as a result the above double splash page gives us some idea of the future of DC Comics to come.

Including Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon's transgender flatmate from the Gail Simone run, becoming a vigilante. And this future has not been diverted.

But at the end of Captain America, SHIELD was disbanded, the information it, and Hydra, hoarded was made freely available.

In Batgirl? Not so much.

Basically, the information, the technology, is al still there. Just now it can be accessed by a good Barbara Gordon. Or by Frankie.

Look to this to form the backbone of Batgirl from June. And wonder, with access to all this Cassandra information, if she might need an Ed Snowden figure to let everyone else know what's going on.

After all, there are other things that can be done with technology. And in an issue where the letterer has very little to do, Batgirl: Endgame finds the joys of emojis instead.
