Marvel To Create New Chinese Superheroes – And Introduce Iron Fist?

IronFist1According to a GB Times translation of a Xinhau News Agency report, Marvel execs Jeffrey Reingold and Stephen Wacker attended an event in China this week to promote the launch of the Ant-Man movie in the country.

While talking to sci fi fans, comic fans and watching cartoonists recreate ancient mythological creatures, they said that as well as telling stories of Iron Man, Spider-Man and the like in a Chinese context, the company also is working on developing more Chinese characters.

They stated that the visit left a deep impression on them and they will continue to observe the Chinese market, learn the culture, and keep an eye on interest in comic book fans.

Steve Wacker talked about existing Chinese elements in Marvel's they have been yet to be exposed to, such as Iron Fist. Going through a translation back and forth, it's reported Wacker said "forty years ago, all of our readers were all Americans, and therefore we only needed to look to the US market and the US audience. Now, developing a Chinese character, we do not want to be too hasty, but employ investigation and meticulous research, and take the time to prepare." "Stephen Wacker said.  "A revival of science fiction will help more Chinese people understand science fiction, love science fiction comics and science fiction movies more and more."

Marvel recently saw the creation of the Korean character White Tiger for that market, who has now joined the regular Marvel Universe in Contest of Champions.
