Transgender Politics And Australia's Supanova Comic Con

Supanova is an Australian comic con, with Daniel Zachariou as its event director. The show, running for well over a decade, is not without controversy. Which may have been reignited with this Facebook appeal.

It would not be the first time Supernova has come under such scrutiny. At the height of #Gamergate controversy, they invited Adam Baldwin as a guest, the man who coined the term and fought the cause and, well, everything else and got thousands petitioning to have his invite pulled.

Which came first: Bradley Manning's treason, or his insanity?

Oh and there was the time in 2004 it was announced that the show would have to personally approve every cosplay costume worn at the show to reduce a) unnecessary skimpiness and b) men dressing as female characters, specifically "Boys dressing as sailor scouts no matter how modest they may look will not get through under any circumstance" and "if a transvestite was to crossplay in a costume they still have to seek approval for a costume just like everyone else whose costume may be a bit risque or considered to be on the M side and not PG. The costume in question must also be that of a non-sexual nature" – quite openly stating that any male-to-female cosplay, whatever its nature was not considered PG…

If you fancy reading this thread, it feels like such a long, long time ago.
