Zendaya Says She Isn't Playing Mary Jane In Spider-Man: Homecoming

So, time for a new loop in this story.

When it was announced that Zendaya was going to be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, there was a lot of talk that the actress would be playing Mary Jane. However, there was never any, official, official word.

And now it seems like maybe all that was wrong, too. Talking to ET, the actress said point blank that she wasn't playing Mary Jane. When asked about it, she said:

I'm not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie, which is exciting. My character's name is Michelle. If that's what everybody wants to think, I'm gonna let people think whatever they want to think.

So, there you have it… maybe…

I'm not 100% convinced that this isn't some interview and PR shenanigans (also see Benedict Cumberbatch saying he wasn't playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness). While Zendaya would know, will have to see on this one, I would say.
