DC Comics To Charge $2.99 Digital For Its New $3.99 Print Comics
Bleeding Cool was the first to tell you that DC Comics was increasing the price of its $2.99 monthly superhero titles to $3.99, while keeping the $2.99 twice-monthlies at the same price.
We also told you that the $3.99 titles would include "buy physical, get digital" codes, the same deal Marvel recently dropped, so that readers could download the digital version of the more expensive comics, for free, if they bought the print comic.
However, examining the ComiXology price points for DC's Full April 2017 Solicitations that we've been running today, reveals that the monthly titles will not be changing their price on ComiXology. They will stay at $2.99, effectively a $1 discount on the print price.
This may prove popular with readers but not retailers as, effectively, DC Comics are providing discount competition to comic book stores from brand new comic books. It will also challenge any after-market in digital codes from readers who bought the print version.
I can hear Dennis Barger screaming already…
