The Nature Of The Dark Knights Of Metal, As Spoiled By Scott Snyder At Fan Expo Canada

When Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Dan DiDio and Pat MacCallum weren't leaning across Toronto daring gravity to do with them what it wilt, they were at a panel at FanExpo Canada spilling the spoiliest of beans on the upcoming Dark Nights: Metal series. And went to the very nature of the beast.

Thanks to Nelson Carvalho who broke ranks and told us what was revealed about the current DC Comics series that has seen Batman become the World's Greatest Archaeologist as  Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have seen him look into the metallic history of the DC Universe, but also unearth some very nasty Dark Nights from the sentient Dark Multiverse, evil reflections of Batman through the filter of other Justice Leaguers to haunt him, and this world. And look a bit like 2000AD's Dark Judges.

Nelson tells us that the audience were told the Dark Multiverse is where everyone's fears become true. Universes are created when you fear something and disappear when you are no longer afraid of that thing. No one buries his fears more than Batman, so Barbatos collects Batman's worst fears, his nightmares of what he could become should he make certain mistakes, and brings them here as his army, the seven dark knights, the seven nightmares, and that's why there are 7 Evil Batmen.

I understand that DC Comics are reticent to label the Dark Knights as "evil Batmen" as it all sounds a little too Secret Empire. So, evil Batmen it is then. Talking of which, Nelson told us more about The Batman Who Laughs. It's Batman's fear of what would happen if he killed the Joker. Because the Joker had a toxin in his blood that, on death, would turn his killer into the Joker.
