Episode two picks up with Jessica (Krysten Ritter) in a bar, throwing back drinks in response to having found the lab where IGH experimented on her and the realization that they made others. She hooks up with a guy there, but when he gets up set that she's a "freak", as in powered, she tosses him out of the bathroom stall. She calls Malcolm (Eka Darville) and finds out that the lab was in the name of Dr Coslov, who Trish (Rachael Taylor) had been looking into. Jessica heads to talk with Coslov. Malcolm gets a "you up" text and Trish meets her mother Dorothy (Rebecca De Mornay) for brunch to get an address for someone.
Jessica discovers that Coslov is dead, killed in a freak car crash. She checks out the house and finds a photo of Coslov with Will Simpson (Wil Traval). he also meets another former soldier named Isaiah (Joseph Castillo-Midyett) who has no legs but was saved by Coslov. He tells her he doesn't believe the doctor's death was an accident and that Simpson is behind it all. The cops show up and ask her about the accident that killed the Whizzer (Jay Klaitz). She tries to get the new super (J.R. Ramirez) to tells the cops what he saw, but he says he didn't see her. She then bails on the cops and goes to the Whizzers's apartment where she finds his mongoose is running around loose, named Emil, and also his laptop which has videos he recorded about his powers and his concerns. She takes the laptop and leaves by the window as the cops start knocking on his door.
Trish asks Malcolm to go with her and secretly film her meeting with Maximilian (James McCaffrey), an old director that molested Trish when she was a young actress. She demands he use his influence to get her into the hospital records or she'll reveal what he did. He refuses but she gives him 48 hours to change her mind. Malcolm, disgusted by what he heard, follows the guy to the parking lot and decks him, breaking his nose. Back at her office, Jessica discovers that the connection between Simpson and the Whizzer is Trish. He was sending her messages about his ability. Jessica can't get her on the phone, so she goes to her apartment where Griffin (Hal Ozan) tells her about the meeting with Dorothy. Jessica then visits Dorothy, kicking down her door, and gets the information.
Jeri (Carrie-Anne Moss) is not dealing with the bad news from her doctor well. She picks up a hooker, who then calls some friends and they do drugs and party until Pryce Cheng (Terry Chen) shows up, wanting to file the complaint against Jessica.
Meanwhile Trish stayed too late on set and everyone left, giving Simpson an opportunity to approach her. She shoots him, but he's not fazed. By the time Jessica arrives, Trish has Simpson taped to a bedpost while his leg is bleeding. He explains that a monster is coming after Trish because of the questions she asking. He's been protecting her. He has an inhaler that gives him increased strength, but it also keeps him sane. They hear something and believe the monster has come for Trish. They let Simpson loose, give him Trish's gun and then the two women run. Before they can get out of the building, they hear shots fired and when they turn back, something comes running towards them, leaps over them and out the door in an instant. They go back and find Simpson's neck broken and he's dead. They realize the monster was after him, not Trish.
The second episode got into a lot more of the meat of the story. Coslov being dead and Simpson tells her there was someone else… probably the big bad for the season. The Whizzer's apartment was interesting, especially Emil the Mongoose, which is a nod to the characters origin of having been bitten cobra then given mongoose blood as an antidote by his father, the famous Dr. Emil Frank. Simpson's death answer the question whether he'll be part of Daredevil season 3, which seems to be a 'no'. His character, Nuke, appears in the Born Again story line believed to be the focus of the third season. Only two episodes in and they've already created a big mystery.
Might need a bit of sleep before the next episode… maybe…
