What Kevin Smith Really Wanted Comic Book Men to Be Called, and More from the IMDBoat Party at SDCC
Last night's IMDBoat Party was the bash to be at during SDCC! Hosted by Kevin Smith, it gave people a chance to mingle and be seen with other notable figures. Guests such as comics legend Rob Liefeld, film critic Leonard Maltin, actor Jimmi Simpson of Westworld, and (needs no introduction) Stan Lee were in attendance, as well as some other hip and young up-and-comers.
As soon as we stepped foot on the boat we were given an IMDB hat and then greeted by Smith himself. We chatted for a few about the cancelation of Comic Book Men, and Smith even clued us in that he wasn't always thrilled with the title. He wanted it to be called Secret Stash after his comic shop (as it would have been more inclusive for everyone), but AMC wanted to follow in the footsteps of their popular Mad Men series at the time. Hence the name.
Food-wise there were donuts, sushi, small plates, and of course plenty of alcohol. The triple-decker boat offered plenty of lounging areas, table tennis, a dance floor, and one of the best views of San Diego. If you ever get a chance to go, do it. There's nothing like it!
