For Boxing Day, a Fundraiser for William Messner-Loebs
Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, is a holiday for Great Britain and its colonial offshoots. Traditionally, it is a day of charity where servants, the deserving or the plain poverty and homeless-stricken my receive donations of charity.
With that in mind, William Messner-Loebs wrote one of my favourite comics of all time, Epicurus The Sage, drawn by Sam Kieth for DC Comics/Piranha Press. But he wrote a tonne of comic books that more people will have heard of, including Action Comics, The Flash, Batman, Wonder Woman, Thor and much more, and he write and drew Journey for Aardvark-Vanaheim with his wife Nadine.
They both find themselves currently homeless and an Indiegogo is being set up to help the pair reestablish themselves, via a fundraising anthology, The Unforgotten.
This full-color comic book is thirty-six pages of art and story, featuring many of those in our community. In order of appearance, these are:
- Tom Orzechowski,
- Bill Bryan,
- Brent Bowman,
- G. Walker Teon,
- J. R. Mounts,
- C. Pat Jackson,
- David Branstetter,
- Marco Evans,
- Anthony Zicari and Claudio Sepulveda, and
- Nick Gibson, Jason Johnson, and Jammie Eric Baird
I mostly handled editing and a few lettering assists. All profits from sales of these books (after manufacture and shipping, as necessary) will go directly to Bill and Nadine.
