Kevin Smith and Jim Lee Take on Zack Snyder's Batman in Detective Comics #1000 (Spoilers)
Detective Comics #1000, like Action Comics #1000, is meant to be out of continuity. Apart from the bits that aren't. And this may be confirmed, or not at a later date.
Such as Manufactured For Use, the comic book story by Kevin Smith, Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair and Todd Klein's story about the gun that shot Thomas and Martha Wayne.
And picking it up for his own purposes.
Years ago in Batman Year Two, we had Batman wielding the gun, when fighting alongside Joe Chill.
Later it is suggested that Batman returned it to Joe Chill for him to commit suicide…
But after that, no sign. In the Flashpoint Universe, he meets a Thomas Wayne Batman, who kept the gun that was used to kill his son as a trophy in his Batcave.
Which was also present in the Justice League movie's version of the Batcave.
But in the Kevin Smith/Jim Lee story, there may be a pointed move away from the Zack Snyder version of events. The one in which Batnman seems to kill everyone.
With Bruce Wayne recovering the gun and keeping it in the Batcave, in a similar fashion as Snyder portrayed in the Justice League movie. But with Alfred telling him that this is would be just too grim for Batman. And, instead, Bruce Wayne taking that gun, melting it down…
…and turning it into something more hopeful.
The yellow Batsymbol he wears (on and off) on his costume.
Which means Kevin Smith and Jim Lee might have made the yellow sign permanent. Going back to the black silhouette without the yellow would just be disrespectful to the memory of his parents… that's if this particular piece stays in continuity. But then it is drawn by the Chief Creative Officer and President of DC Comics, so odds are good.
