Did Avengers: No Road Home #9 Drop in a Massive Marvel Milestone? (SPOILERS)
Avengers: No Road Home has already seen Conan travel from his Cimmerian world to modern day Marvel Earth (watch for him in the Savage Land soon). And in today's issue, in battle with goddess Nyx, they also travel dimensions, until they come across this place.
Where Nyx enters.
And Hercules does his best impersonation of Bizarro Hodor, to keep the door open for the Vision to enter.
But that house is familiar. The notes at the back name suggest it is called The House Of Ideas, which is the nickname given to Marvel Comics by Stan Lee back in the day.
Is there any chance it could be Clyde Wyncham's house?
Clyde Wyncham was the first and only mutant of our own Earth, the one that gets to read comic books, and he could control humans, open portals to other dimensions and bring the dead back to life. After accidentally reviving his own father, his mother struck him with a candlestick to get him, resulting in permanent brain damage.
In 1985 by Mark Millar and Tommy Lee Edwards, the vegetative Clyde summoned Marvel supervillains to pour world in anger. Captain America also crossed worlds and took Clyde into the Marvel Universe to treat him.
In Fantastic Four, by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch, Reed Richards held Clyde in Area 87 in a permanent state of pleasant dreams. The Earth was attacked by The Marquis of Death, a future incarnation of Clyde Wyncham who had been freed Area-87 and had his mind fully restored and who travelled in time, destroying multiverses – and training Doctor Doom. The Thing released the present day Clyde against the Marquis but was defeated though gave enough to allow others to defeat the Marquis. Clyde was returned to his cell.
In Old Man Logan, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, another version of Clyde is the future Doctor Doom.
And now? Could this be his big return somehow, making Avengers No Road Home even more meta than we thought?
Maybe, maybe not. Let's find out together…
