Could HOXPOX Tempt Kieron Gillen Back?

Once upon a time, Mister Sinister was created as a twelve-year-old boy's idea of what a supervillain may look like. That was meant to be the original revelation, as conceived by Chris Claremont for Uncanny X-Men. But that all changed, and Mister Sinister became a High Evolutionary stand-in, a genetic scientist from the nineteenth century who messed with people's DNA for his own, ineffable plans, with a particular bent for the Summer and Grey genetic lines. Cloning them, capturing them, recreating them.

But generally being rather humourless about it all, despite looking like Colossus crossed with the Rocky Horror Picture Show. In Kieron Gillen's run on the Xbooks, he emphasised the high-arch aspect of Mister Sinister, giving us many Sinisters cloned from the original performing menial services, and embracing the ridiculousness of it all.

In yesterday's Powers Of #4, Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz took that even further, presenting a gossipy, camp, even-more-ridiculous Mister Sinister, including his own gossip column from Bar Sinister, known as the Red Diamond. And Kieron Gillen, who has said goodbye to Marvel Comics in favour of his own creator-owned work was oh-so-tempted back…

Do kinda wanna see if I can talk Marvel into letting me launch MISTER SINISTER'S MASSIVE SECRETS.

Sinister Secrets # 12

This former x-men scribe is pretending he doesn't get an email from the current x-men scribe asking him to do the very thing he says he wants to do. All this playing hard to get won't last forever but it is probably going to get him a raise. I'm very proud. https://t.co/nLuzk0f1e6

Sinister Secrets #1 from Kieron Gillen, coming… in 2020 sometime?
