"Mitchcraft": Amazon Developing Horror-Comedy Series From "Psych" Creator, EP & "A Quiet Place" Producers

What happens when you combine the dynamic duo behind Psych with two of the brains behind horror franchises A Quiet Place, The Purge, and Ouija? Amazon Prime's Mitchcraft (working title), an "aspirational horror" hybrid comedy from Psych creator/executive producer Steve Franks and executive producer Chris Henze of Thruline, and Brad Fuller and Andrew Form from Fully Formed Entertainment.

With Franks stating that the goal of the series is to "make scary fun again", Mitchcraft is described as a two-handed relationship comedy with a genre twist that follows a small town fire marshal who realizes he may have inadvertently harnessed the power of the Supernatural and become – for lack of a better term – a witch.

For Franks, the idea for the series felt like a natural extension of the horror parodies practiced on USA Network-to-Peacock crime comedy-drama Psych:

"Over the course of Psych, we had the opportunity and freedom to play with different genres, worlds and themes within the confines of a procedural mystery. Comedy was always the constant, but thanks to an obsessive cast and our collective reverence for stories like The Shining, American Werewolf in London, Twin Peaks, the Friday the 13th & Halloween franchises, among others, we often found the most joy by putting funny people in incredibly dangerous and scary situations."

Franks is excited for he and Henze to collaborate on a series Fuller and Form – believing that "adding Brad and Andrew to the mix is a real asset that will allow us to tap into some expertise in the genre space that we love, while injecting it with our brand of ridiculousness."

Before he moves onto any new projects, Franks has a more pressing current project to finish up, first: second reunion movie Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, set to premiere some time this spring on NBCUniversal's upcoming streaming platform, Peacock.
