Baker & Taylor No Longer Selling Graphic Novels to Comic Shops
Bookstore wholesaler/distributor Baker & Taylor of Charlotte, North Carolina, has announced they will be closing down their retail wholesale business.Rather than selling to bookstores, they intend to focus on libraries and schools, along the lines of the business of its owners since 2016, Follett Corp.
David Cully, president of B&T, has stated that this is also down to more publishers selling directly to stores rather than using distribution and wholesaler options.
Baker & Taylor is a big name is selling graphic novels to comic book stores, whether through direct accounts or through the Baker & Taylor Diamond Membership.
It may give an opportunity for a new player to enter that marketplace, and Diamond Books Distributor seems the best place to take over that area.
The changes are due to roll out this summer, with retail distribution closig in July while B&T's warehouses in Bridgewater, New Jersey and Reno, Nevada will be closed before the end of the year.
