Well, yes, that would be Rorschach – sorry, Walter Kovacs – as seen in the comic book Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Which Black Canary is now a reader of. Or at least she watched the Zack Snyder Watchmen movie, which was a  little more literal with the line.

But despite Dinah Lance having either watched or read Watchmen, it is also an official part of the DC Universe now. In The Question #17 in 1988, The Question reads Watchmen on a plane and dreams of the character. In 1999, DC published The L.A.W. by Bob Layton and Dick Giordano, which included the Charlton characters that inspired Watchmen, and in 2014, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely did similar with Pax Americana, that was a little more on the nose.

But for DC Rebirth in 2016, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank showed Batman with the Comedian's button, and Doctor Manhattan's hand reaching out, with Doomsday Clock making Watchmen part of the Multiverse, with Ozymandias, a new Rorschach, and the Comedian travelling to the DC Universe, to reveal that Dr Manhattan was behind the New 52. The series Flash Forward had Wally West gain the powers of Manhattan, and Dark Knights: Death Metal had a Batman who had done the same, his powers stolen by the Batman Who Laughs. And now Flashpoint Beyond has continued to join them all up, with snowglobes and offspring.
