Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 12 Only on ComiXology and Kindle For a Week Before All Dark Horse Buffy Comics Pulled
A Bleeding Cool reader writes,
So it looks like ComiXology just screwed over Buffy fans who were buying the book digitally. The final volume, Season 12, was only available for a week, and now it's gone. So I've spent hundreds of dollars buying the book on ComiXology, and I don't get the ending. This is NOT cool. Maybe you can shed a little light?
Certainly sir. Boom Studios has the Buffy The Vampire Slayer comic book license from 2019. Previous issues were published by Dark Horse Comics, but Fox partially owns Boom Studios, so the switch was an expected one – it also happened with Firefly and similar happened with Star Wars, Disney and Marvel.
What this means is that as of January 1st, Dark Horse Comics is no longer allowed to sell Buffy comic books – via ComiXology, Amazon Kindle or anyone else. Copies already sold into comic stores, Diamond Comic distributors or Amazon warehouses will still be on sale, but that's your lot. And once they are gone, they are gone. So if you were buying digitally, that volume – released on the 24th December – was only available until the 31st January. The comics won't be deleted from your ComiXology or Kindle account if you bought them before that but you can't buy them now.
Yes, they should have said something. But they didn't.
So, unless Boom negotiates rights to reprint the Dark Horse Buffy volumes- and they may not wish to, so as not to draw attention from their rebooted Buffy line of comics, you are out of luck I am afraid.
Maybe you might have to resort to print... I know, I know. But needs must.
