RetailerDelight: I've been mentioning that the UK iTunes price of DC Comics dramatically undercuts the price that UK retailers sell print copies. And as DC goes to day-and-date and was meant to be price matching with print retail for the first month of sale, that UK retailers may suffer. A $2.99 comic current sells on iTunes for $1.79. That's even less than the pound/dollar exchange rate of £1.86, even including the 20% VAT charge. But print comics have to be shipped across the ocean and Diamond UK, technically a customer of Diamond US, then has to redistribute them across the UK, with the added costs that brings. Then there is no recommended retail price, so the price varies across the country from £2.10 in London and Bristol to £2.50 in Hull.
Well, suddenly there's a big change. iTunes $2.99 comics are now being sold for £1.99, a 20 pence jump. Which should make a UK retailers a little happier happy – and a lot of UK customers sad…
MassDelight: For the next 24 hours, Dark Horse Comics is offering both of its Mass Effect comic series on its Digital app, free of charge.
