Drawn & Quarterly Have Two For Free Comic Book Day From Guy Delisle, Shigeru Mizuki And Elise Gravel #FCBD17

Free Comic Book Day has announced its Silver titles for 2017. Including two from publisher Drawn & Quarterly.

The first is a sampler of two upcoming, politically-minded D+Q releases in translation Hostage by Guy Delisle (out in Ma!) and Poppies of Iraq (by Brigitte Findakly and Lewis Trondheim) out next autumn

The first selection, from Hostage, describes firsthand the trials and tribulations of Doctors Without Borders administrator Christophe André who was held captive for over 100 days in the Caucasus region in 1997. The second half of the sampler is written and drawn by Brigitte Findakly & Lewis Trondheim (respectively). Poppies of Iraq is an account of Findakly's relationship with her homeland Iraq, detailing memories of her childhood and adolescence during Saddam Hussein's regime and her family's eventual decision to move to France.

The second FCBD book will come from D+Q's Enfant imprint, and will focus on their most celebrated children's authors and illustrators. It will have selections from Shigeru Mizuki's Kitaro, Anouk Ricard's Anna & Froga, and Tove Jansson's Moomin and the Brigands, but taking the spotlight in this collection will be Elise Gravel's upcoming Spring book If Found…Please Return to Elise Gravel. The sampler will offer readers activity pages and a sneak peek into her sketchbook, where colorful monsters, imaginary friends, and many a grumpy thing reign supreme…
