It's been over eight years since writer Ed Brisson launched an original series, and his next one has been one he's been developing for nearly twice as long. After garnering industry attention for his gritty crime and sci-fi creator-owned series at Image Comics, Boom Studios, and Dark Horse, Brisson has built his profile as a mainstay at Marvel on franchises including Predator, Ghost Rider, New Mutants, and X-Men.

Jim Zub Displaced by Ed Brisson as Oshawa's Most Famous Comic Creator

His new creator-owned series, The Displaced, with artist Luca Casalanguida, might be his most ambitious yet with an existential horror sci-fi high concept that combines James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas' The Woods with HBO's The Leftovers. In the upcoming Boom series, the city of Oshawa, Ontario, along with its 170,000 residents, vanishes without a trace. Only those outside the city limits survived, but the horror of losing everyone and everything in their lives is compounded when, within days… no one seems to be able to remember Oshawa or anyone from it. So maybe a bit of Black Mirror meets Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans' Die or Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis' The Cull.

Speaking of Thompson, she is one of a cadre of fellow writers who've gotten an early look at the first issue of The Displaced and are singing its praises. A cadre that includes Ethan Sacks and Rich Douek.

Brisson's fellow Canadian scribes are possibly the most effusive with Jed McKay, who calls it…

But possibly no one was more supportive than Jim Zub who like Brisson is from the real world Oshawa admitted defeat in their previously secret competition of which one of them is the more famous creator. "For years, @edbrisson and I have joked about which one of us was the more 'famous' comic creator from Oshawa, Ontario. Ed has now put his thumb on the scales in a way I can't match by making the city of Oshawa the core of his latest creator-owned comic. Well played, Brisson. As always, Ed delivers a compelling story and a killer hook, and the art by Luca Casalanguida + Dee Cunniffe looks great…I'm not jealous at all. FOC on The Displaced #1 is Mon, Jan 22, so let your local shop know you want one, even if you're not from Oshawa. ;) (In 2018, I did include Oshawa in a 2-page spread of supernatural happenings around the world in WAYWARD #30, so there's that, at least). ;)"

Meanwhile, other creators like  Richard Pace and  Matthew Rosenberg are showing their support for The Displaced by joining Brisson on his eight store signing tour… which naturally kicks off in Oshawa And another fellow Canadian, Chip Zdarsky, is providing a yet to-be-revealed exclusive tour variant cover.

Comic shops may want to double check their orders before Final Order Cutoff closes tonight. Especially if they are in or around Oshawa.

The city of Oshawa, Ontario has vanished without a trace. Even worse, nobody remembers it or the 170,000 missing residents that disappeared along with it.
As the survivors also fall into the forgotten, they must seek each other out, if they hope to have any chance of surviving in a world where no one believes they exist…
Highly acclaimed writer Ed Brisson (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Predator), rising star artist Luca Casalanguida (Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body, James Bond), and red hot colorist Dee Cunniffe (Barnstormers, Crossover) pose the question… how can you feel connected to reality or each other if by all veritable means, you don't exist? In Shops: Feb 14, 2024
