Judge Dredd Joins… The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund?

Rebellion is the British publisher of 2000AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is an activist non-profit organization dedicated to defended those under legal attack for free speech in North America and for raising awareness of threatening issues.

Not that Judge Dredd himself would have any truck with such an organisation. As all good fascist police know, free speech is a weakness of the weak and where the rot begins and sets in.

Well, now Rebellion has become the CBLDF's latest corporate member, joining American publishers, Abrams, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, BOOM! Studios, comiXology, Dark Horse Comics, DC Entertainment, DCBS, Diamond Comic Distributors, Fakku!, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Oni Press, Neverwear, Penguin Random House, ReedPOP, Scholastic, SPX, TFAW.com, Valiant, Viz Media, and the Will and Ann Eisner Family Foundation. Not Marvel though.

And at the Diamond Retail Summit yesterday, the CBLDF announced new projects for 2018 including Retailer Rights Workshops, an interactive 10-15 city tour covering the legal principles of selling comics, The Free Expression Handbook for Creators, covering creator rights, contracts, legal resources, intellectual property issue and more and Speak Up! The Kids Guide to Free Expression, a new comic acquainting young readers with their freedom to read.

As well involving themselves in the exhibition The Art of March: A Civil Rights Masterpiece at the Society of Illustrators running until the end of June.
