It Looks like DC Comics Didn't Tell Chris Sprouse About Tom Strong Appearing in The Terrifics Either
Promethea will be appearing in this week's Justice League Of America #23, with a cover appearance on Justice League Of America #24.
Bleeding Cool reported the story last week, which was news to Promethea co-creator JH Williams III, who learnt about this when he was sent a link to the story. While Alan Moore is permanently on the outs with DC Comics, JH Williams III more recently drew Sandman: Overture for the publisher. And he wasn't happy to learn about it this way.
But he's not alone, it seems. Just as Promethea is appearing in Justice League Of America, so another one of the America's Best Comics line co-created by Alan Moore, Tom Strong and the cast of that book, will be appearing in the new team-series, The Terrifics.
And when this was announced at New York Comic Con last year, it looks like no one at DC Comics had told Tom Strong co-creator, Chris Sprouse, either. He posted on Facebook back in October, linking to a PR-arranged release with CBR, "Can anyone who works at/for DC shed some light on this?"
Promethea and Tom Strong are both "creator-participant" titles, but no one seems to have told the participants. And with The Terrifics, part of the DC New Age Of Heroes line, intended to emphasise the artist role over the writer, no one seems to be bothering to tell, let alone, the original artists.
All this happens in the light of two other things – DC Comics have refused to release the previously agreed-promised-and-solicited Promethea Immateria, the complete double page spread-paginated sideways complete Promethea collection, using original editor Scott Dunbier's original pagination files.
And DC Comics also refuse to publish the second half of the ABC title Top Ten Season Two, by original series artists Zander Cannon and Gene Ha, the first half of which was spectacular.
If DC Comics are valuing the artist more and are wanting to "move the needle" as a result, might it be worth talking to the artists whose work these new books are based upon?
