Marvel Creates a New $13 Twelve-Issue Middle-Grade Reader Format

DC Comics has a new imprint with new work featuring DC Comics superheroes aimed at younger readers. Marvel Comics, however, seems happier to repackage its existing material in new formats.

Which is why they are launching a new Middle-Grade range, defined in the USA as from around 11 to 13 years old.

But rather have things like The Ultimates, which I probably would have been all over when I was that age and reading 2000AD, Captain Britain and X-Men, they have chosen Ms. Marvel, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, Spidey, Unstoppable Wasp, and the kid-friendly Avengers one-shots.

The size is slightly smaller than a traditional Marvel collection, 6 inches by 9 rather than the more common 6 5/8ths by 10 3/16ths. And holding around 12 issues of content each for $13, making just over a buck an issue as the price point. Given the success of the likes of Nimona, Bone, and other with similar amounts of content for a similar price, this looks like Marvel's attempt to move in on the Scholastic and school library market and try to find the kind of successes that others have found.

Maybe this is how Ms. Marvel will sell its second half-million?

The Avengers book is half the size but only $10…
