Marvel Releases Free Comic Book Day Venom and X-Men Comics in July

Free Comic Book Day was meant to be the first week in May. But the opposition of events had to be considered and the event was delayed, even though plenty of the comics had already been printed. The DC Comics title was meant to have kicked off the Generation books, which may now no longer see print. Also it is run by Diamond – who DC Comics are now pulling out of, so what happens to their FCBD titles now is totally unknown.

Marvel's titles are similarly tied into ongoing storylines, and it seems they are no longer willing to wait. Marvel Comics will now release its titles originally intended for FCBD in July,

So, available now on July 15th, Free Comic Book Day 2020: X-Men will "feature a brand-new X-Men story by Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz that will lead into the game-changing X of Swords crossover. The second story will also foreshadow an upcoming epic tale by Tom Taylor and Iban Coello."

Then on July 22nd, Free Comic Book Day 2020: Spider-Man/Venom will provide "two exciting tales connected to the coming major storylines in Venom, The Amazing Spider-Man and Black Cat from top creators Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, Jed MacKay, and Patrick Gleason and more."

More details will be shared next week on how to receive these titles as part of Marvel's Back in Action programme. Will other publishers be able to make similar decisions? With 6 figure print runs, a  lot of money can be tied up in these promotional titles, much of which are currently sitting in warehouses at printers or distributors waiting for that Free Comic Book Day to be rearranged. It may be notably that one fellow has sold 137 copies of the Spider-Man title in advance for $25 each on eBay. And now is about to get quite the payday…
