Marvel Shows How Spider-Man No Way Home Spell Works In Practice
So, in the recent Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange casts a spell to make the world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Everyone, across all dimensions, including himself. But how does that work in practice? Spoilers ahead, of course, for both the movie and the comic books. Because at the end of the movie, we see the spell has played out as originally planned. J Jonah Jameson still condemning Spider-Man but oblivious as to who Spider-Man might be. The same with Happy Hogan who says he knew Spider-Man through May Parker – but not aware that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. But, as some commentators have asked, how would that work? There will have been newspaper articles, magazines, recordings, all with people talking about Peter Parker being Spider-Man, people may forget he was Spider-Man but wouldn't they be reminded on YouTube?
The current Devil's Reign comic book from Marvel may explain things. Because, in that, we get to see another secret identity forgotten by the world, courtesy of the Purple Man's children, that of Daredevil, a fair few years ago.
That's the one. Well, the final issue of Daredevil's comic from Marvellast year had seen Kingpin going through his files… and coming across one he'd forgotten.
And not able to accept what he couldn't see.
In Devil's Reign, The Kingpin took it to Daredevil himself in disgust.
Before deciding that if he can't have that secret, why have any secret?
And burning everything around him down around him…
…but from the ashes left by the pyre, rising up for something else.
So the question for whatever comes next for Spider-Man, is what does Flash think he wrote his book about? Why does Happy think he met May? And who can't accept there's something they don't know? And will Kingpin be the Marvel Comics President? Man, you should see the last guy Marvel supported with millions of dollars…
Over in Marauders, Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic four is going through something similar… after getting mindwiped himself in X-Men/Fantastic Four. And also wanting his memories back.
While in X-Men, it seems that Ben Urich has forgotten what he knows about the Krakoan resurrection programme. Someone erased that knowledge from him… which mutant could it be?
