Marvel's Wasp #2 Reveals Previously Secret Origins Of W.H.I.S.P.E.R.

One upon a time, Al Ewing created the bag guys known as W.H.I.S.P.E.R. - in today's Wasp #2 he is going to retcon his own continuity.

W.H.I.S.P.E.R. was an "evil" highly tech-powered international organisation introduced by Al Ewing in New Avengers #0 back in 2015, rising from the ashes of AIM and run by The Maker, the Ultimate Reed Richards.

They returned to combat Robert Da Costa's New Avengers, after he had bought AIM.

It usually stands for World Headquarters for International Scientific/Philosophical Experimentation and Research and that their base of operations is the Weird Hideout In the Snow-Peaked Everest Region. And was picked up by Ewing's collaborator Mark Waid in the All-New All-Different Avengers run as part of Civil War II, in relation to The Wasp.

Now Al Ewing with Kasia Nie is here to give us a bigger history of W.H.I.S.P.E.R. and its relation to the Van Dynes in today's Wasp #2, just as the Ant-Man And The Wasp third movie is about to hit.

And it seems the tie-in between W.H.I.S.P.E.R. and Wasps is a little more than alliteration. It is the latest version of W.E.S.P.E. from Al Ewing's Mighty Avengers from 2013, who appeared barely twice.

And now tied in with Evald Skorpion, another villain from Al Ewing's Mighty Avengers and New Avengers days, whose soul was captured in a crystal by The Maker and who gave him a body engineered from a gorilla and a scorpion.
