Mister Miracle #7 Moves From Big Numbers to Miracleman

Reading Tom King and Mitch Jenkins's Mister Miracle reeks of reading Alan Moore and Bill Sienkiewicz's Big Numbers — so much so that I often forget which I am reading, even though it's obviously going to be Mister Miracle.

But today we also get something closer to Miracleman #9 by Alan Moore and Rick Veitch. The most graphically and accurate portrayal of a comic store-distributed birth — aside from Miracleman #9. It was hugely controversial at the time, but also marked the moment that Diamond's Steve Geppi decided to step away from content concerns over a lot of what the distribution would distribute.

But there are other nice touches too — such as the poster in the hospital, inspiring pregnant women to "Be a Wonder Woman".

Itself reflected in the lines of the heart monitor, monitoring the heart rate of Big Barta and her baby.

Because she already is a Wonder Woman… and Mister Miracle is her Superman? He wears the T-shirt, after all.

It really, really looks and feels like Big Numbers though. The pace, the clipped dialogue, the pose, the linework. You know, if DC Comics put Big Numbers #1-3 in the back, would anyone realise?comics

Anyway, in a comic all about Mister Miracle's death and his potential escape from it — here's a parallel of new life.
