Ninjak No Longer To Glow-In-The-Dark. Awwww…
Not final art. Indeed.
Valiant has just told comic book retailers that Ninjak #10, the first issue of the upcoming "Operation: Deadside" storyline by Matt Kindt and Doug Braithwaite that brings back Shadowman to Valiant, will no longer feature those glow-in-the-dark covers.
Instead, the publisher is making the comic book returnable for retailers, and increasing the cut retailers get each time they sell the comic. The comic, and subsequent chapters will also get a higher quality cover stock at no extra charge.
Why the change? Apparently the glow-in-the-dark effect just wasn't good enough.
Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani says,
Valiant's number one priority is the quality of our content and this is one rare instance where the manufacturing process was unable to satisfactorily capture what we had envisioned. Many fans, retailers, creators, and Valiant staff alike were looking forward to "OPERATION: DEADSIDE"'s glow-in-the-dark covers – a first in Valiant history. Unfortunately, the samples just didn't live up to expectations and, rather than release something that fell beneath our standard of quality, we're upgrading the covers all around to give fans an equally weighty and every bit as exciting reading experience come December.
The first issue is out on December 9th. Here's how it looks with the non-glow-in-the-dark covers.
Say, does anyone fancy making their covers more glow in the dark?
