Pin-Up Artist Olivia De Berardinis Takes Pride In Her Female Fans

Olivia De Berardinis is one of the world's most renowned pin-up artists. Her work is instantly recognizable and has been featured on a variety of products from books, t-shirts, posters, calendars, and now, even Zippo lighters. To promote the new lighters, De Berardinis talked about her career and her work in a recent video.

Some of the interesting things that come out of the video is her definition of pin-up art as an almost cartoon version of the female form. Essentially, you don't want the piece to be too realistic, and you want the poses to be exaggerated. She also says there isn't a lot of different between painting pin-up models and superheroes. But the biggest takeaway from the clip is how she expresses her pride in the fact that that a large portion of her fanbase is female.

One of her most popular pieces, Banshee, is used for the new lighters. The piece is based on model Julie Strain, ex-wife of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman.

She describes her art as sensual, powerful, and direct — I think that's pretty accurate.

In the spirit of Wonder Woman celebrations, De Berardinis recently did a print of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman for Sideshow Entertainment.
