Previews for All of This Week's X-Men Comics in One Place [8/29/18]
Each week, Marvel sends out previews of all their comics shipping on the coming Wednesday. To some websites. Not to this website. We've asked, but crickets. That's their prerogative, of course.
You might think, in the year 2018, Marvel would just post their weekly previews on Instagram or Imgur so that they could be shared virally with little effort, but that's the way the comic book industry works in a nutshell. In the comics business, the need to sustain the direct market system which serves as the primary distribution method of the superhero-industrial complex requires intentionally sabotaging growth opportunities. You might sell millions of digital comics if you priced them at 99 cents, but direct market retailers would be beside themselves. Just look at what happened when DC tried to sell a few comics at Walmart. Publishers need retailers and retailers need publishers. It's a symbiotic relationship.
The 24-hour comics news system, which is the primary method of publicity for the superhero-industrial complex, is the same thing. Publishers need comic book websites to provide fluff interviews to their editors and creative teams, post previews and reviews of comics, and make a big deal out of whatever transparent gimmick publishers have come up with sell comics in any given months. Super-mega-crossover events, #1 issue reboots, variant cover bonanzas, all that stuff isn't going to hype itself. And websites need publishers, because those fluff interviews and previews and reviews and press releases about super-mega-crossover events and #1 issue reboots and variant cover bonanzas provide form the substance of the click-garnering articles that pay the bills when churned out at a pace and volume that must be maintained regardless of whether there's anything actually worth writing about.
But there is another way! By which we mean, we can just go to the PreviewsWorld website and download them with, which is what did before looking through for any opportunities for clickbait articles of our own (click click click click click) and then uploading all the X-Men ones here.
Enjoy.
