Another David Bowie Exhibition In London By Comic Artists Opens Today
Today, Orbital Comics in London launches a new exhibition in its gallery, Moonage Daydreams, for what would have been Bowie's seventieth birthday and a year after his death.
Moonage Daydreams sees 20 artists from the comic book field & beyond offer their unique take on their favourite David Bowie albums & singles.
Each artist will be creating a new sleeve for the record of their choice, which will be displayed in the Orbital Gallery space, with a limited run of prints being made available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting Cancer Research UK.
But it's not alone. The first anniversary of David Bowie's passing two days ago saw tributes from friend's family and fans around the world.
Artist's tributes proliferated social media as they sought to underline the influence the man and his work. To ensure that these tributes didn't disappear Spindle Magazine invited submission for an online memorial page. The response was overwhelming with over fifty artists from the comic's world responded to the original call which can be viewed here.
Just over thirty artists from the original line up submitted work to the subsequent exhibition curated in partnership with the Museum of Soho 'Glo Life' – an evocation. Film screenings and a Bowie walking tour of Soho accompanied the two venue pop up exhibition in conjunction with Time Out London, the V&A, Record Store Day, Shaftesbury PLC & the British Record Shop Archive.
Prints produced from the artwork submitted for the exhibition are now available exclusively from the Cartoon Museum online and instore.
Proceeds from sales are donated to Cancer Research and Macmillan charities.
