Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 2nd August 2015 – Sex Criminals Vs. Star Wars

kenobi

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Star Wars hits the top again. One day we'll have Star Wars and Batman out on the same day and then we will know. And while Secret Wars books Thors and Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars do well, the latter boosted by a new origin for Venom, it is Sex Criminals that outperforms, its bagged 1:35 sketch variant pushing this this polybagsexual comic book into the hands of innocents… and outselling every DC comic book in the process.

  • 1. Star Wars #7
  • 2. Thors #2
  • 3. Deadpool's Secret Secret War #3
  • 4. Sex Criminals #11
  • 5. X-Men 92 #2
  • 6. Superman #42
  • 7. Flash Annual #4
  • 8. Daredevil #17

Thanks to the following retailers…

Who had this to say

Not a great week for sales. But the books that sold, sold very well.

Thors is one of Marvel's best selling Secret Wars tie ins for us. Batgirl and her annual were DC's highest charting books. Only three total with Flash's annual.

Biggest jump was Sex Criminals. Lot of people caught up with the trades came in for the newest single issue. Sold nearly double what we did of #10. Sold out of the regular cover and only have the O'Malley variant on the shelf.

Sabrina was the only other non BigTwo book on the list.

Love 5 week Wednesday months – spreads everything out and theres no one overwhelming HUGE week of releases.

The #1 spot was some licensed sci-fi thing.

Sold 2 copies of Uncanny X-Men #266 this week, 1st Gambit as well as a couple New Mutants #86 (1st Cable) as the Gambit movie has been making the headlines.

Lots of key 90s comics are turning as that generation starts to come into disposable income and seem to be more actively trying to get those harder to find books. Even pre-Unity Valiants and final issue Valiants are turning again.

5th week which is usually a slower week was helped out a lot by Star Wars coming out. Biggest surprise? Lobo is growing in sales. More and more people are putting Lobo on their pull lists.
Star Wars. Let there be Star Wars. Current series. First series. As long as it is by Marvel people want it. Sadly the Dark Horse material is not seeing any love.

Decent week considering that it was light on the amount of titles that came out. Star Wars was the clear winner and the Secret Wars titles held up better than expected. Sex Criminals would have charted higher if I had gotten the full order in

Batman is on the move again with higher than expected back-issue movement and Flash issues are going out the door faster than i get them in.

Deadpool comes out on top of Star Wars this week.  I have No Ideal How but The Merc pulls it off! Marvel takes 1-4 and 9th. Batgirl is the sole top ten for Dc Comics at #5.  Lazarus takes 6th and Saga 7th. Home Town favorite Spawn takes 8th and Jem comes in at #10.  WE have seen a HUGE spike for Image comics over the last 2 weeks and IDW takes some more spots in the top 25.  Overall, this wasn't a good week for comics new issues sale.  Online, Trades and Silver Age comics still rule this world in our store.

Yuk. 5 week month + Marvel event replacing ALL of its books & running late and tie-ins under-performing + only DC Annuals = Craptastic week for comics. Thors is #5 on the list yet is selling 1/3 of what Thor was. I can't wait for October to get here so that things are back to normal.

Star Wars is still taking the top spot, but numbers are settling down a bit now that the newness has worn off. The polybagged gimmick pushed Sex Criminals way up in the charts, while Superman moved into our top five thanks to the big Lois Lane revelation.

Much more interest in Dark Horse Star Wars trade paperbacks, regardless of price. Also very strong sales on out-of-print Marvel Omnibuses, with Silver Surfer Omnibus and Thor Omnibus volumes moving very well.
