Bravest Warriors # 32 Is Needed On The Comic Shelves

By Julz Hendricks

Bravest Warriors was the highlight of my comic book reading week. All ages, and downright charming, it's # 32 issue run has proved that stories like this are needed on the comic shelves.

IMG_0839 (1)There are two stories, both are continuations of previous issues. The first one is part of the main story line, and ends this particular arc. The Bravest Warriors are away at summer camp, but nothing is ever that easy. Bugcat has been trying to capture Catbug so he can take his rightful place on the throne. Or at least persuade him to. Catbug is as adorable as he is smart, and he is not going to leave his friends anytime soon. Meanwhile the rest of the Bravest Warriors are wrapping up loose ends by besting Akrothile, the cute little monster summoned to help Bugcat. All is well in the end, as the Bravest Warriors plan for their next adventure.

The second story, "They Came From The Planet Of Fandom," is hysterical. The Bravest Warriors are being held captive by being brainwashed. The relive the same day over and over again. Much to their surprise, they are being collected by the king of the aliens, as he is a huge fan. The alien subjects rebel, as they are huge fans as well, but want no brainwashing harm to come to the Bravest Warriors. I feel like this story we can all relate to, as we are all fanboys/fan girls of something!

Kate Leth wrote the main story. She has been a champion for Bravest Warriors since Issue # 21. She is really great at getting you absorbed into the story quickly, and keeping your attention through the issue. I think that is very important, mainly because my mind wanders occasionally when reading. Not with this comic. She knows the characters well, and writes them with ease. They flow nicely, and their friendship shines through in each issue. I really like that we have been seeing a lot of female creators at KaBOOM the all- ages imprint of BOOM. Girl power for the win.

IMG_0841Ian McGinty also joined the Warriors with issue 21. It has been hard for me to imagine any other art associated with this title. It's fun, bold and very expressive. The faces are my favorite part. The features, and the rounded shape. You just can't look away from it's splendor. It's always a pleasure to see what is in store for each issue.

The second story is written by Pranas Naujokaitis. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard at a story before until this. Mainly because I collect things, so I can truly appreciate even the extreme collecting of the Warriors. It just feels really satisfying to be able to laugh at a comic, as I read so many serious titles. It was just such a delight to read this 3 part story.

Be Brave! Pick up Bravest Warriors, and share it with the one you love.
