Comic Creators Mobilize for the Philippines with Haiyan Benefit Anthology
By Alasdair Stuart
The colossal storm that hit the Philippines recently has left a trail of destruction that will take months to rebuild from. In an effort to help, a group of comic creators, led by Phil Woodward, have dedicated their time and talent for free to create an anthology to raise money for the relief effort. PR manager Sara Westrop, of Markosia Comics, explains further:
Our goal is to raise $10,000 with our Haiyan Benefit Anthology, via our Indiegogo campaign. All profit, after printing and shipping costs, will be donated to the Philippines Red Cross. This currently equates to just over two-thirds of our $10,000 target being donated to the Red Cross' efforts, but we're working hard to bring our printing costs down even farther and increase the amount donated. Based around the myths and legends, and folklore of the region, this 150 page comic anthology features stories from both established and up and coming artists, writers, and creative teams. All of them have worked incredibly hard to make this anthology possible, and to offer various pledge incentives in support of our Indiegogo fundraising campaign.
The campaign includes digital and print copies of the anthology, a Myths & Legends pinup book, a concept sketchbook and variant covers, all available at different pledge levels. The creators involved include Grant Perkins, Jeremy Biggs, JL Straw, Graeme Howard, Richmond Clements, Eva Perkins, Owen Jollands and Valia Kapadai. It's a lovely looking book, for a fantastic cause and if you can pledge, please do.
