Comixology Bestseller List – 27th July 2018 – What Will Top the Chart Now That Saga Is on Hiatus?

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller List, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best-selling volumes and graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

With a sparse release week from DC last Wednesday, Marvel was able to beat DC in the Top 10 7-3. But this week it's back to business as usual, as the Top 10 score is DC 7, Marvel 2 and Image 1. Poor Marvel — they finally get a big victory, but that news is buried under a mountain of announcements of Comic-Con, and now they go right back getting dominated by DC.

Marvel's Infinity Wars event has officially begun, and while the Prime issue has landed in the Top 10, its placement is the far cry from the high spots Dark Nights Metal and No Justice were taking on a regular basis. Marvel, you might want to take notes on restraint from DC. Flooding the market every week with Infinity books can cause fatigue. (And once again, I give unsolicited advice to a major company filled with people who have business and marketing degrees and are most likely smarter than me.)

The usual suspects in the Top 10 have to step aside this week for two digital comic titans: Saga and Doomsday Clock. And with Walking Dead losing its No. 1 to the Batwedding earlier this month, Saga remains the only undefeated book in the Comixology Bestseller List. But with Saga taking a year-plus-long hiatus and with Doomsday Clock releasing every two months, the rest of the fourth Wednesday books will soon get a chance at the crown.

Justice League Dark has an impressive debut this week, hitting No. 4 and beating The Flash. A great deal of credit goes to James Tynion IV, who is starting to gain some star power. When he was writing Detective Comics, it was frequently DC's best selling non-event book the weeks it was released. When he finished his run and departed, it dropped five spots the very next issue. Clearly his name carries some weight with digital buyers. Comixology should really remove the term "newcomer" from his bio.

Terrifics continues its slide, dropping out the Top 10 and getting passed by the still-steady Hal Jordan and Wonder Woman — both of which are always in or close to the Top 10 around 50 issues in. Impressive. Jeff Lemire fans shouldn't worry, though: It's still doing better than most of Marvel's releases this week. But it needs to stabilize soon, lest it end up like the rest of the New Age of Heroes titles.
