Friday Runaround – Lisa Gregorian, Queen Of Comic Con
LocalWatch: Atomic Robo's Brian Clevinger gets profiled by his local university paper, the Daily Athenaeum.
LocalWatch2: The Boston Herald looks at Diamond and its move towards digital comics.
The company's new program enables retail partners to sell certain digital comics when they're first released, for $1.99 or more. After a month, and when the print comics hit stores, the digital comics would sell for 99 cents when purchased with their print companions.
Diamond has been able to convince about 20 comics publishers to participate in its digital storefront initiative, which will kick off in July.
But the two biggest publishers — Marvel, which prints "Spider-Man" and "X-Men," and DC Comics, which prints "Batman" and "Superman" — have held out.
LocalWatch3: Jonathan Hickman, Nick Spencer and Scott Synder look to the future of comics for The Trojan.
"We don't feel like outcasts for liking them or enjoying them anymore," Spencer said. "Now we sort of have community in these things. I don't know if geek culture even exists anymore, there's no real sense of isolation with readers, no fear of rejection."
LocalWatch4: The Mercury News on local filmmaker Jeremy Inman and the San Jose permiere of his movie Super Hero Party Clown,
Super Hero Party Clown tells the story of Eugene, who performs at children's parties dressed as the superhero Arachnid Man (who has powers not unlike Spider-Man). Eugene likes his job, but is also a bit embarrassed by it, which is compounded when he finds himself performing at the birthday party of Walter, the younger brother of his longtime crush, Emily. Eugene elects to keep his identity secret at the party, only to discover that Emily seems to appreciate what he does. That's when Todd appears and becomes a rival for Emily's affections, going so far as to take a job at the same party clown company where Eugene works–and performing at children's parties as Arachnid Man's rival, Captain Tremendous.
This is The Bleeding Cool ComicChron Robot speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.
Lisa Gregorian has been working for Warner Bros. for 24 years. She started with Lorimar Pictures and worked her way up. In 2005 she was named the EVP of Worldwide Marketing for Warner Bros Television. Six years ago she attended comic con as an attendee and was floored (pun totally intended) by the fact that outside of DC, Warner Bros did not have a presence at the pop culture convention. She returned to Burbank and began looking into a strategy that would bring all of Warner Bros. to the convention.

The Writer's Commentary: Osborn | Spider-Man | Comic News | News | Marvel.com
Well the whole book started on my end with a story I read about a "special detainment center" off the coast of Washington state that holds sex offenders who have already completed their sentences. I was enthralled by this story. On the one hand, I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU and I take a pretty clear position when it comes to the bill of rights. Detaining individuals who have completed their sentences sounds indisputably heinous to me. On the other hand, I'm the mother of two beautiful treasures. I'm not shedding too many tears for predatory sex offenders and I won't be picketing to put them back on the street.
topps: stormtroopers by *strongstuff
i just received the green light to show my base card for the upcoming star wars: galaxy 6 card set from topps. what makes this series of cards so damn cool (in my opinion) is the fact that topps commissions artists with insanely varied styles to illustrate their takes on all corners of the star wars universe. i am a massive star wars fan, and topps cards were a huge part of my childhood ('87 wood-border baseball set anyone?) so it goes without saying that my inclusion in this set is a big deal. i was pretty much given free reign to tackle any character(s) in the star wars universe for this. resisting the urge to go the bounty hunter route, i instead chose to create a collage of original trilogy stromtrooper designs, complete with a badass AT-AT pilot.
