Junot Diaz To Create The Dominican Superman
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz, Professor of Writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is working on a new novel. That's according to an address he gave to Maybury College, who have chosen Oscar Woo as a study novel.
It focuses on the DC Comics character of Superman, but one who crash lands in the Dominican Republic in 1937, instead of Kansas, USA, and grows up in a very different fashion. And indeed, enslaves the world to his will, specifically "Slap the head off of George Bush and take his seat at Congress."
The book intended to show "what America does to the rest of the world" and compared the novel to the Rage Against The Machine album, Evil Empire.
Of course, for many people, "Dominican Superman" can refer to only one person…
