Knock Knock Knocking On Adam West's Door – At The Motor City Comic Con With Vince Cracchiolo

Vince Cracchiolo reports for Bleeding Cool from Motor City Comic Con in Novi, Michigan.

No, this convention has not been bought by Wizard. Yet.

Marvel and DC do not come to this convention which means there are no big announcements coming out of here, but they do have a decent guest list so it can be fun.

I spoke with Todd Bridges who is promoting his book Killing Willis. He is very straightforward, but I know all anyone wants to know is how Gary Coleman is doing. I guess he is doing well although he is very angry. Todd says we all would be that angry if we were 5'2".

Linda Wagner of Bionic Woman fame was very friendly. I asked her why they decided to give robotics to the dog, and she responded, "Why not?" I then asked how much the bionic woman cost to make since the bionic man was $6 million, and I know women made less money back then. This got me a lot of back story since apparently she was offered more money than him at the time. He was then given a raise in order to be making more than her.

Adam West is charging $60 for an autograph and had a line pretty much all day so I did not get to talk to him. I did eat lunch with him in the hospitality room when he was here a few years back, and he always seems to do well when he is here. He did come to the after party that year (more on the after party stuff later), and I saw him looking over all the chaos of the party. I kept pointing out Mayor West to everyone, and then we went and knocked on his door a few times that night, but he never answered.

There have been rumors about a recent episode of WWE Raw where Triple H somewhat alluded to calling Lillian Garcia a horseface. I asked her about those rumors and she was very polite in saying she did not really want to add any fuel to that fire.

Wolfman Mac is a TV show host who shows B movies on Saturday nights. He had his whole crew there to help promote the upcoming 4th season which will start in July.

There was a guy dressed up as the bad guy Johnny from the Karate Kid. I told him to sweep the leg, and he came over to let me know that after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament in the first movie, he filed a formal complaint that the karate kid had performed an illegal move and so was disqualified. He had the trophy to prove it.

I have to say a special thanks to Dave Aikens who is an artist for a lot of the children's books like Dora the Explorer. I bought a couple books for my daughter and he drew a nice personalized picture for her.

Avatar Plug plug of the week: Jacen Burrows was signing books all day. I let him know how disturbing I find Crossed to be, and he let me know it is only getting worse. He has read a few issues ahead, and he has no idea how Garth Ennis is going to top himself on this one. He also talked about his upcoming book with Alan Moore called Neonomicon, and that when Alan heard that Jacen was drawing it and that he can do whatever he wants since this is Avatar Press, he took that as a challenge to write his most twisted stuff.

The Motor City Comic Con is always a good time, but the best time to be had is at the party at the hotel on Saturday Night. They were supposed to have Johnny and the Greenmen who did the theme song from the 60s Batman TV show, but there was not enough room for them to set up. I should have seen if they were asked to do any music for any of the Batman porn that is coming out.

Byron Cherry who played Coy Duke on the Dukes of Hazzard was hanging out all night. John Sneider had been there the year before and I had asked him about Coy as a joke, to which he responded that the last he heard Coy was living in California and gone crazy. I told this to Coy, or Byron as he corrected me, and he said that him and John talk all the time and play golf every week. He says John also is shooting a pilot where he plays a golf pro. I am not sure who to believe on this one.

Twiki was hanging out all night as well, but he was sitting at a table with friends so I did not want to bother him. He was selling electronic cigarettes at his table at the convention so I am not sure if that is a new business venture for him. Michigan has new no smoking laws so maybe he was just trying to capitalize on that.

My wife attended this party with me, and she has no idea who anyone is. People were passing out jello shots which is always dangerous at a convention party, but she ended up talking to a guy dressed as someone from Star Wars. He had lots of weaponry, so she grabbed one of his guns and they headed down the hallway attacking people. Well, one of the people that happened to come around the corner was Ray Park of Snake Eyes, Darth Maul and Toad fame. He pretended to do a few karate kicks to them, and then my wife yelled at him to lay down because she just shot him so he did. Then a bunch of fans started to crowd around and he started flipping people over and causing a bit of commotion until security came to clear people out of the hallway. My wife still has no idea who he is. But I did videotape the whole incident so I will get that uploaded soon in case anyone would be interested in seeing this.

I had an absolute blast, and I want to thank Rich for getting me in. Videos on the way!
