Learning How To Make Star Wars Origami At San Diego Comic Con

Kicking off Friday's Star Wars programing was a panel that most people were not in the room for, but eventually were won over by the fun and engaging process known as origami. Moderated by author Chris Alexander, whose book Star Wars Origami is available now, the panel consisted of two demos of Star Wars origami, which is harder than it looks. The first was simple enough, or at least the much younger than me little person next to me made it look simple. It was a lightsaber, and most people figured out that one pretty quickly. But the second, a replica Boba fett helmet, had most of the audience confused. Step by step, neighbors helped neighbors, and we all successfully completed the paper crafts.

It took Chris 10+ years to come up with all of the projects in his book. Lucasfilm contacted him directly after seeing the popularity of Tom Angleberger's Star Wars origami books, and he has been working with them through DK Publishing ever since. He says he hopes to get his hands on Episode 7 sooner rather than later so he can start working on new crafts for those films as well.

Some examples of crafts in the book include: a TIE fighter, C-3PO, a Milenium Falcon, a landspeeder, and his very own version of Jabba The Hutt, among others.

What do you guys think of my lightsaber and Boba Fett? Considering I do not have an artistic bone in my body, but I think I did pretty well.
