The Unlicensed Marvel/DC/Fantastic Four Funfair Ride Of Olde London Town
I popped by a Funfair in Shepherd's Bush, London over the weekend — the kind of thing you do a lot when you have kids. And this kind of place is not fussy about official licensing. While everyone might be familiar with a poorly painted Minion or Mickey Mouse on the side of such a fairground ride, I must say that the preponderance of Marvel and DC artwork on one particular ride did stick out.
After all, nowhere else will you be able to see any Fantastic Four logos being licensed. Okay, not being licensed here either, but you know what I mean. Stuart Immonen art on the left there, I think.
Spider-Man, stuck between Robin and Wonder Woman. I'm sure there's a joke about the Invisible Man there somewhere. If only I could remember what it was…
What would Infinity War be like if it also had the Fantastic Four? And the Joker??
There's really no thematic sense here other than "something to do with them damn superheroes, like what the kids like."
Oh, and the Deadpool logo covered makes me feel much safer about the whole affair. Is that a Dale Keown Hulk?
The superhero ripoff livery is only restricted to the signs, though, so it could be rem0ved if a lawyer ever came a-calling. Or, you know, when it got closer to Christmas. Why Christmas? Because despite all the superhero pictures, it's got a big reindeer on the top. Not even a cape.
But this ride wasn't the only offender at the funfair.
That's more like it! Someone actually painted/airbrushed that! And have added Witchblade to the Marvel and DC familiars! And look…
You can even take home a memento. What egregious unlicensed superhero imagery have you seen around you? Send it in, the odder the better…
