The Red Vespas Of Doom Are Coming – Preview Neverboy #2 From Dark Horse

Neverboy is a very different comic and I don't mean that in a patronizing way. It's so out there in concept and execution that it reminds me of some of Image Comics' strangest produce, and yet it's dark enough and somehow alternative enough that it does feel right as a Dark Horse book.

STK668375The first issue took us inside the life of a character who may or may not be a version of an invisible childhood friend–there's all kinds of weird psychological stuff going on that can only be halted by–well, taking drugs. And the adventure gets madder in Issue #2 from what I can tell–those menacing baddies on the red Vespas are closing in for the kill. But at this point Neverboy manages to encounter Julian Drag, a former artist and second main character, so literally anything could happen.

If you've ever seen the British show The Prisoner, this series is a little like that so far in its surreal pursuit aspects and in psychological focus, but more fluid and dream-like as well. The series is written by Shaun Simon, with art by Tyler Jenkins and cover art by Conor Nolan.

Dark Horse describes Issue #2 thus:

Artists thrive on inspiration, but what happens when it dries up? Julian Drag, a former artist turned cabdriver, has lost his muse and hasn't created anything but depression in years. Just when he's ready to throw in the towel, a desperate Neverboy comes crashing into his life. The two lost souls realize they may be able to help each other, but at what cost?
