Todd Klein Not Nominated For Lettering, And Other Eisner Curios
1. Todd Klein Not Nominated For Lettering
I thought it was worth pointing out. Todd Klein not being nominated for an Eisner lettering award. I mean, they didn't nominate other masters such as Dave Sim or Paul Grist, but that's not the point. Todd Klein has always got nominated and mostly wins too – thirteen of the fourteen Eisner lettering awards awarded so far. It's as traditional as, well, Laura Martin getting nominated for Best Colourist. In recent years it's been suggested that they change the name of it to the Todd Klein Award to save time. What happened.
2. James Robinson Nominated Best Writer For Justice League: Cry For Justice.
I like James Robinson's writing. I do. His Blackest Night Starman revival issue just made me yearn for the promised Shade series. Golden Age is one of my favourite superhero books. But Cry For Justice… stunk. It stunk of editorial mandate and micro-management, it stunk of trying to show plot instead of tell a story, it's an aberration in a splendid writing career. So how the hell did James get nominated… for this title? Is this the Nascar Heroes #5 of the Eisner nominations? And while I'm on that high horse, Old Man Logan?
3. Book I've Never Heard Of Getting Multiple Nominations
My mommy is in America and she met Buffalo Bill. Okay, now I feel ignorant. Jump click to Amazon.
4. The Bible Being Defined As Fiction
Okay, this should rile some people. Robert Crumb gets a Best Writer/Artist nomination for The Book Of Genesis: Illustrated. But not for Best Writer/Artist – Non Fiction. So officially that means the Eisner committee are heathens.
And anyway, Logicomix.
5. No Freakangels for Best Web Comic?
Dudes.
