Tuesday Runaround – It's The Seventies All Over Again

Tuesday Runaround – It's The Seventies All Over AgainFriendWatch: How to get ahead in comics? Be a lifelong friend of the publisher.

Premiering May 25, the Top Cow miniseries is the second under the Minotaur Press banner (following Joshua Hale Fiakov and Rahsan Ekedal's popular Echoes), and written by Top Cow publisher Filip Sablik and his friend since the sixth grade, John Mahoney. Last Mortal follows a pair of pals, too, centering on a down-on-his-luck ne'er-do-well named Alec.

ValentineWatch: Comics Alliance creates Mark Millar Valentine's Day cards – even if they ignore Nemesis continuity to do so. I dunno, kids these days…

SmallGovernmentWatch: Japan looks to self-sufficiency amongst its people;

"If we expect the country to take care of us, we may end up not being able to make a living," says Megumi Kawashima, 27, a website designer and one of Japan's legions of "otaku" fans of comics and video games. "We should be sensible enough to know we need to take care of ourselves," added Kawashima, who creates manga comics — illustrated in a distinctive Japanese style and popular around the world — under the pen name K Ayuhara.

XWatch: Christos Gage and Juan Babillo (or Javier Bubillo in the original press release) rotate on Astonishing X-Men with Daniel Way and Jason Pearson as the book moves into regular X-continuity. And a regular schedule.

BC ComicChronThis is The Bleeding Cool ComicChron Robot speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

evandorkin: My First Convention Party – SDCC 1987

Now that I think about it, 1988 was just as weird/crazy/cool — more so, actually — I passed out Hollywood drunk-style in front of David Lloyd, signed up with SLG at a party where Dan Vado and I were flat on our backs intoxicated on the carpet, got in trouble for spitting beer on people from Bob Burden's hotel room window during the Dark Horse party, got hired to assist Bob on Flaming Carrot #20, hooked up with a girl I met at a party where people were wearing paper Spirit masks (we weren't), then got C-blocked when my roommate/boss tossed us out of the room later that evening.

Jim Lee's Digital visual analogy | Savage Critics

Jim held up two hands. In one hand he had a regular 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, and in the other, he had a piece of dental floss. The former, he said, represented the revenues from print comics. The latter? Revenue from digital

SRBissette.com – A Letter from Mark Oakley…

I don't think I've ever really worried about that in all the days I've been making comics.  Ask anybody I've ever lived with (ask Tara Tallan; I slept in a room barely big enough for a bed and a desk).  I've lived and worked in smaller ones since then very happily.  Not the kinds of places you can raise a family.  I spent a blissful year rolling up my bed every morning before getting to work.  And I've been perfectly happy doing that, and probably always will be.  A roof, food and some heat for my toes, and I'm happy so long as I can engage in the creative energies which drive artists along.

The injury-plagued Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" has been cited for two safety violations by the State Department of Labor following a series of on-stage accidents.

Comic Relief closes for now | The Beat

To the surprise of few, Comic Relief, the once groundbreaking but recently troubled Berkeley-comics shop, has closed, according to word on the street and an actual sign on the door posted by Image's Branwyn Bigglestone.

A romance worthy of a comic book

Not only has Kate Middleton transformed from ordinary girl to fairy-tale princess-to-be with her engagement to Prince William, but she's also been transformed into a comic-book heroine as well. "Kate and William: A Very Public Love Story," published by Britain's Markosia Enterprises and written by Rich Johnston, depicts the lives of the royal couple both together and apart.

Rumor: Will DJ Caruso Direct 'Preacher'?

One of my well placed Hollywood spys informs me that Disturbia/Eagle Eye helmer DJ Caruso is in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of Preacher. This is said to be all dependent on the box office of his latest film, I Am Number Four. I have not been able to double source this rumor, but I thought I'd throw it out there to get your thoughts?

Gary Groth Finally Comes to His Senses

Well, it was bound to happen. After a bit more than a year at tcj.com, the powers that be have come to their senses and sent us packing.

'Heroes for Hire' Is The New 'Marvel Team-Up' [Exclusive Preview]

What's interesting about a comic like Heroes for Hire, Marvel's new series about Misty Knight coordinating street level heroes, is that it doesn't really have the same baggage other classic franchises do.

Spotlight on Herb Trimpe

I was one of the last ones to do conferences with Stan. He did most of the talking. I would jot down notes as to how the story was going to go. I never had any serious problems as far as his corrections or adjustments went. I think it's the way that comics really need to be done. Stan was a writer, primarily, but he realized that comic books were basically a visual medium and it was important that the artist tell the story.

A blog full of comic book characters drawn as Simpsons characters

With the news that Tom Hardy had been cast as Bane (alongside the casting of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman) in Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, I thought it'd be cool to pay homage to the comic version of Bane.
