The Biggest Comics Guests In All Of High School – FanfaireNYC Kicks Off With Neal Adams, Mazzucchelli, Janson, Camp, Kidd and More

This weekend is the third annual FanfaireNYC at the High School of Art and Design. FanfaireNYC is a charity comic convention to raise money for the art supplies and facilities for students of the New York public school. The guest list features Neal Adams, David Mazzucchelli, Klaus Janson, Chip Kidd, Bob Camp and many, many more. There are a lot of comic cons in and around the New York area but FanfaireNYC strives to be more than a comic convention boasting a packed weekend of signings, panels, workshops, D&D, tabletop and video gaming, cosplay contests, music, vendors, and an artist alley that features both industry professionals and the school's top artists.

FanfaireNYC, which celebrates creativity, entrepreneurship, and technology in the arts from cartooning and animation to architecture and fashion, will return the weekend of February 8th and 9th to the High School of Art and Design. The event is open to the public.

Neal Adams, renowned comic book artist of Batman, Green Lantern, and X-Men, and Abe Audish, Director at Cartoon Network and Professor at Cal Arts, are two of the many special guests and alumni who will participate.

This event will draw over 150 exhibiting artists and vendors as well as award-winning guest speakers who will offer lectures about their careers and artistic processes and conduct workshops and portfolio reviews. Additional confirmed participants include Spongebob and Ren and Stimpy Character Designer Bob Camp; Comic Book Artist and Writer David Mazzucchelli of Batman: Year One, Daredevil and Asterios Polyp, Comic Book Artist Klaus Janson of Dark Knight Returns and Daredevil, Comic Book Artist Fernando Ruiz of Archie Comics; Animators Ray Alma of Speed Racer and Transformers and Chrissy Fellmeth of Titmouse; Graphic Designer Chip Kidd of Jurassic Park and Spiderman; and FX Artist Michael Maddi. There will also be a cosplay contest and light saber workshop.

Sponsors of the event include Appel Farm Arts Camp, Artist & Craftsman, Blick Art Materials, Neal Adams Gallery, and Midtown Comics, who will be providing workshops, interactive exhibits, support and resources.

"What makes FanfaireNYC so exciting is that the commercial artists we train and graduate have opportunities to network, share their original work and bring the wider Art and Design community of NYC together," says the school's principal, Maximillian Re-Sugiura. I'm personally excited to help judge the Cosplay Craftsmanship Competition and looking forward to hosting an incredible lineup of distinguished alumni and creators."

"This is a joyous and dynamic festival that brings together trailblazing professionals in the commercial art field, Art and Design students and alumni, and pop culture lovers from all backgrounds and ages," says PTA Co-President Evie Hantzopoulos. "It's family friendly, incredibly fun, and affordable
