Tim Seeley Talks About His History With Ash And The Army Of Darkness

With the recent start of the Starz series Ash Vs Evil Dead and the current Army of Darkness Humble Bundle going on, Dynamite has been talking to some of their previous writers of the character and sharing those interviews with us. Here they talk to Tim Seeley about his time with Ash Williams.

aodhs01-cov-seeleyDynamite: Tim, tell us how you got involved with the Army of Darkness franchise.

Tim Seeley: AoD and I go way back actually. When Devil's Due first started up back in 2000, Josh had asked me about other properties worth looking into, and I suggested Army of Darkness. He had me do a pitch for a miniseries which, though it didn't end up happening, eventually morphed into the first issue of my Hack/Slash series. When Dynamite landed the rights to AoD, I did a cover for their first series. I've done AoD covers pretty regularly for the last ten years! And then, of course, we did the Hack/SlashArmy of Darkness crossover.

Dynamite: What was the greatest challenge in writing the property?

TS: Honestly, Army of Darkness is literally the easiest thing for me to write. Ash is in my DNA. The only character I have to think less about when I write is maybe Deadpool.

Dynamite: What impact did AoD have on your career as a writer?

TS: I saw the Evil Dead movies as a teenager, and I think the three films were some of my first great "horror" loves. Army of Darkness helped define what I like in a story … horror, adventure, humor. Without Ash, there'd be no Cassie Hack.

Dynamite: Tim, you helped re-launch the Chaos! brand. How do you think Ash would fare in that crazy quilt of a universe?

TS: I think that's a comic Dynamite should make. Ash in the Chaos! universe is a story that's ripe with decapitations, one-liners and action. I'd write it. I'd also buy it.
