Captain Marvel's Humanity Is What Makes Her Special

When it comes to Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, fans of just the Marvel movies probably don't know what to expect from this leading lady. According to star Brie Larson to Entertainment Weekly, Carol is very much a person who goes out there and does what needs to be done. However, that attitude might not be entirely a good thing.

"She can't help but be herself," Larson tells EW. "She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She's also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she's the first one out there and doesn't always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw."

Captain Marvel's Humanity Is What Makes Her Special

Carol is, according to Kevin Feige, the most powerful hero in the Marvel universe. When you're dealing with characters that powerful, they can get a little harder to relate to. The best example of this is how hard DC is having to work to make Superman relatable when he's basically a god. According to one of the directors and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first female director Anna Boden, Carol is far from perfect and that makes her special.

"This is not a superhero who's perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection," says Boden, who's the MCU's first female director. "But what makes her special is just how human she is. She's funny, but doesn't always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn't always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity — and all of its messiness."

It sounds like Boden and Larson both have a really good handle about why Carol has been such an influential character over the many, many years she has been around.

Summary: Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will also star Brie Larson, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
