ABC Gives 'Straight to Series' Order to Kenya Barris/Alec Baldwin Family Comedy

ABC has stepped up to win the battle for a multi-camera comedy co-created and executive produced by Kenya Barris (Black-ish), Julie Bean (Grown-ish) and Alex Baldwin (30 Rock). According to Deadline, the network gave the project a straight-to-series order with the idea of Baldwin starring. Barris, Bean and Baldwin all have overall deals with ABC Studios. The series will be written and showrun by Barris and Bean and is being described as a classic dysfunctional family comedy about a stubborn, opinionated, former TV star who moves in with his daughter, her girlfriend and the child they're raising together.

Baldwin is currently hosting Match Game at ABC and is in negotiations to headline a talk show base don his radio show/podcast, Here's the Thing with Alec Baldwin. The actor won two Emmys, three Golden Globes and six SAG awards as Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock. He also nabbed an Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his impersonation of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live.

Barris is creator/executive producer on Black-ish on ABC and its upcoming spinoff series Grown-ish on Freeform. Black-ish this morning landed two more Golden Globe nominations, best comedy series and best lead actor in a comedy series for star Anthony Anderson. The series won a Golden Globe last year for female lead Tracee Ellis Ross. Bean serves as an executive producer on Grown-ish. She previously worked as a co-executive producer on American Housewife. She and Barris worked together on The Game. Bean also has done stints on Mike & Molly and NewsRadio.
