Nicole Kidman Shares First Look at Meryl Streep Filming Big Little Lies Season 2
Now that HBO's pretty much gotten the entire band back together, Nicole Kidman (The Hours) has taken to Instagram to share with fans the first image of three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep (The Post) filming the second season of Big Little Lies:
Streep joins the cast as Mary Louise Wright, the mother-in-law of Kidman's Celeste Wright and mother of Alexander Skarsgard's Perry Wright.
Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.
Big Little Lies Season 2 stars Nicole Kidman as Celeste Wright; Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Martha Mackenzie, Adam Scott as Ed MacKenzie, Laura Dern as Renata Klein, Shailene Woodley as Jane, Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie Carlson, Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright and Douglas Smith as Corey Brockfield.
Here's a look at where some of the characters find themselves heading into the second season:
Celeste Wright (Kidman): Reeling from her husband Perry's death, Celeste is adrift, but determined to fight for her family and find the woman she once was.
Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Witherspoon): Finding that good intentions don't always yield good consequences, Madeline confronts the truth of Perry's death, while coming to terms with her own marriage and traditional notions of family.
Mary Louise Wright (Streep): Concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry's death, Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers.
Jane Chapman (Woodley): While processing Perry's sudden death, Jane is trying to build a new life for herself and Ziggy.
Renata Klein (Dern): The epitome of control, Renata is now faced with new challenges in her marriage.
Bonnie Carlson (Kravitz): Bonnie struggles with Perry's death and is forced to face demons in her past.
Kidman, Witherspoon, and David E. Kelley are re-teaming for the newest installment, with Kidman, Witherspoon, and Kelley also set to executive produce. Kelley will write all seven scripts for Season 2, based partially on a story by author Liane Moriarty, with Andrea Arnold (Transparent) attached to direct. Emmy-winning Season 1 director Jean-Marc Vallée, who will remain an executive producer.
HBO's Big Little Lies Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
